ABOUT USChampion readers holding books

The Ipswich District Teacher-Librarian Network is a not-for-profit incorporated body listed with the ACNC as a charitable organisation. Members are teacher-librarians, librarians, library aides and technicians from state and private schools and public libraries. The network meets once per school term, holds two workshop meetings including PD, and coordinates the Ipswich and Somerset/Lockyer Regions CBCA Qld Readers Cup. A biennial festival of children's literature, StoryArts Festival Ipswich, is organised by the network and available free for all P-7 children to attend. We also organise author tours to member schools and a Story Sports team writing competition.

Each year, the network produces a resource book to give teachers, teacher-librarians and public librarians ideas on how to celebrate CBCA Book Week. This helps fund the network's activities. The network is a major donor to the The Children's Book Council of Australia Awards Foundation and winner of the 2001 IASL/SIRS Commendation Award.

The Ipswich District Teacher-Librarian Network was initially set up by Education Qld in the 1970's but became most active in the 1980's when the first author tours to schools were organised. By 1991, we began to produce a publication to help our members celebrate CBCA Book Week and started to sell it to others. By 1995 we had excess funds from the sale of the book and decided to run a free literature festival for children.

There are no defined boudaries to our network as people who once worked in Ipswich schools have moved into other regions or even retired but remained members. We therefore welcome anyone with a passion for children's literature and who are interested in helping us create our Book Week publication or work on ony of our programs that connect children to books and their creators.
